Loading AVED Data Into VARS

1. Locate the URL of the XML file that you want to load into VARS. The easiest way is to:
   • Open a web browser and browse to http://eits.shore.mbari.org/e/EITSprocessed
   • Browse to the folder containing the XML you want to load. Right-click on the XML file you wish to load and select "Copy Link"
2. SSH into Somniosus

   ssh somniosus.shore.mbari.org

3. CD to the EITS application

    cd /Applications/EITS/EITS-Standalone/bin

4. Run the loader

    ./gsh ../scripts/groovy/ingest_avedevents |URL|

   • Paste the URL you copied in place of URL above

Annotating AVED Events with VARS

1. Locate the URL of the Movie file that you want to load into VARS. The easiest way is to:
   • Open a web browser and browse to http://eits.shore.mbari.org/e/EITSprocessed
   • Browse to the folder containing the movie you want to load. Right-click on the file and select "Copy Link". Make sure you use the movie that ends with -results.mov (e.g. http://eits.shore.mbari.org/e/EITSprocessed/20090212/20090212T080539Z/20090212T080539Z-results.mov)
2. Open the VARS Annotation application from http://somniosus.shore.mbari.org/webstart/varsannotation.jnlp
3. At the bottom of the VARS window do the following:
   1. Login to VARS by clicking on User label
   2. Open the EITS Movie by click on the Video label
      • In the dialog set the Video Source to be a QuickTime Movie
      • Set the dive number as the date of the movie in yyyymmdd format (e.g. 20090212)
      • Paste the movie URL into the Movie URL field

The VARS Applications can be launched from http://somniosus.shore.mbari.org/webstart/
